Local charity, Action Together is launching a winter support campaign, ‘Winter in Rochdale’, to offer and signpost a range of key information and support available to strengthen communities across the Rochdale Borough through the Covid-19 pandemic and winter.

Winter in Rochdale will provide a one stop shop for people looking to give something back to their local community and for people looking to get help. It will include a volunteer ‘Street Ambassadors’ recruitment drive, a call out for supplies and technology to be donated and information of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations delivering support to local people.

Action Together is working in partnership with the Food Solutions Network to launch the Community Warehouse in Rochdale to collect and distribute food, care and hygiene supplies to local charities and community groups to enable them to support people across the Rochdale Borough who are struggling.

The Community Warehouse needs the help of local residents to provide doorstep donations of food, care supplies and digital equipment. A team of volunteers, Street Ambassadors, will be arranging collections to allow Rochdale Borough residents to donate from the comfort of their homes. Street Ambassadors will confirm a time and date of collection. People will then pop their donations on their doorstep and the Street Ambassadors will do the rest.

Suggested items to donate to the Community Warehouse include tinned meat/veg/fruit, soup, pasta, rice, pulses, cereal, baby food, shampoo, shower gel, sanitary towels, tampons, soap, nappies, baby wipes, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and games consoles.

Through Winter in Rochdale, Action Together is working closely with the Digital Tech Library partners to provide digital equipment to people in the Rochdale Borough to help reduce digital poverty and promote digital inclusion for all. If you would like to donate no longer used digital equipment including laptops, mobile phones, tablets and games consoles, please get in touch with Action Together by calling 0161 339 2345 or emailing info@actiontogether.org.uk to arrange pick up of the equipment.

Kerry Bertram, Rochdale Strategic Locality Lead at Action Together, commented: “The pandemic has worsened inequality and a hard winter lies ahead for many. The pandemic has also highlighted great kindness, community action and people supporting people, we hope this winter support will build on this so we can help each other through winter, and emerge stronger, kinder and more connected to each other than ever.”

Street Ambassadors will be delivering leaflets across Rochdale Borough with more information on how to donate. Click here to sign up to volunteer as a Street Ambassador.
