Oldham Women’s Network

The Oldham Women’s Network brings together women’s organisations in Oldham to focus on current impacts they are seeing amongst women and girls they work with. As well as share information, challenges, and explore opportunities to work together.

About us

Oldham VCFSE Women’s Network is open to all VCFSE groups and organisations in Oldham who are led by women and / or whose work is women centred.

The priorities for the Oldham VCFSE Women’s Network are:

  1. Creating a supportive network: Building a strong and supportive network is crucial for Oldham women’s groups and organisations to thrive. This involves creating a space where members can connect, share resources and experiences, and collaborate with one another.

  1. Advocating for women's rights: This may involve lobbying for policy changes, raising awareness of women's issues, and advocating for women's representation in leadership positions.

  1. Providing education and resources: This may include workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs.

  1. Fostering diversity and inclusion: This involves creating an inclusive environment where all members feel welcome and valued, regardless of their background or identity.

  1. Promoting leadership and career advancement: This may involve providing leadership training and mentoring opportunities, as well as advocating for women's representation in leadership positions in the broader community.

  1. Co-ordinating community support for women experiencing domestic abuse: Domestic abuse is a pervasive issue that affects many women in Oldham. Some members of the network deliver community based support for women experiencing domestic abuse by providing information, resources, support services and practical help. This may include advocating for women experiencing domestic abuse through the work of OWN.

  1. Coordinating support for women experiencing poverty: Poverty is another issue that disproportionately affects women, particularly women of colour, single mothers, and those with disabilities. This may include advocating for women experiencing poverty and connecting to the work of Oldham Poverty Action Network to address economic inequality and provide support for low-income families.

  1. Promoting access to healthcare: This may include advocating for reproductive healthcare services, mental health services, and preventive care.

  1. Addressing health inequalities: This may involve partnering with healthcare providers and community organisations to provide targeted health services and resources addressing health disparities that disproportionately affect marginalised communities, such as women of colour, LGBTQ+ women, and women with disabilities.

  1. Supporting women's health education: This may involve providing workshops, seminars, and online resources on topics such as reproductive health, nutrition, and mental health.

  1. Promoting research on women's health: This may involve advocating for increased funding for research on women's health, as well as supporting the development of policies and programs that address women's health needs.
