The Purpose of a Site Maintenance Assistant Volunteer is to create and maintain a welcoming, productive, and sustainable space for growing food and supporting biodiversity.

- Volunteer: Weekly
- Availability: Tuesday PM, Friday AM
- Tasks: Site Maintenance & Construction:
• Learn how to build and maintain raised beds, dead hedges, and other structures.
• Assist with cutting grass, trimming hedges, and keeping pathways clear.
• Gain skills in basic DIY, landscaping, and garden infrastructure repairs.
Plant Care & Nursery Support:
• Learn how to water plants effectively and care for seedlings.
• Assist in the plant nursery by potting seedlings and transplanting plants.
• Gain an understanding of plant health and maintenance.
Community Composting & Sustainability:
• Learn about composting and help manage food waste and organic materials.
• Assist in sorting, turning, and maintaining compost bins.
• Help educate others on composting best practices.
General Support & Engagement:
• Keep the site clean, safe, and organised.
• Share ideas for improving the space and making it more accessible for all.
These tasks are not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other duties in order to meet the needs of the service. - Training: Training, where necessary, will be given for safe and effective completion of the role.
Most training will be informal, hands on and demonstration of tasks.
In addition to the induction, there may be specific training volunteers will be eligible for, in order that tasks may be completed effectively. The details of these will be provided in the role description.

Formal taught course
Any training requirements will be subject to discussion with Wildbrook Community Food and Growing Project team. All authorised training will be arranged by Local Food First. - Requirements: Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location
- Skill And Qualifications Required: Reasonable travel expenses will be provided to volunteers.
No DBS is needed for this role.
Only people aged 18 and over can apply. - Interests: Community, Conservation, Environment, Foodbanks, Health and wellbeing, Hunger, Mental Health, Wildlife
- Activities: DIY/odd jobs, Gardening, Lending a helping hand, Outdoors
