VocTech Activate

Aims/priorities: The VocTech Activate grant fund supports the development of new ideas that use digital tools and approaches to transform how people in the UK gain skills for work.

The scheme is a ‘test bed’ where the first spark of an idea which could solve a vocational learning problem can be scoped and tested in a supportive environment. Projects that are at a relatively early stage will be funded. The aim is to help prototype ideas and work out the next steps necessary on their route to long-term success.

Who can apply? Applications are invited from UK-based early-stage businesses, smaller digital innovators and other organisations looking to test new digital approaches on a small scale.

Digital innovators currently working in other markets who can see opportunities to adapt their approach to vocational learning will also qualify. Edtech businesses looking to expand their products and series to delivery to the VocTech market, and those with expertise in their field, looking to scale-up using digital technologies will are being targeted.

Other organisations may apply, including charities, trade bodies, existing learning providers and employers who would like to test new approaches to using digital technology for vocational learning.

Applications can be strengthened by demonstrating a collaborative approach, especially where employers and digital learning specialists are working together.

Grant amount: There is an overall budget of £900,000 available. Individual grants of between £30,000 and £60,000 will be awarded for projects lasting between 3 and 12 months.

The funding offered for any individual project depends on the problem being addressed, and the nature and scale of the proposed solution.

Application process: The funder encourages all applicants to attend a grant workshop before applying to the fund.
