Tackling Loneliness with Transport Fund

Aims/priorities: The aims of the project that interested organisations need to meet to be eligible for funding are:

  • To implement and deliver a range of effective, targeted pilot transport schemes for those at risk of loneliness
  • To build an evidence base on transport and loneliness, particularly among vulnerable groups
  • To demonstrate how new transport pilot schemes or a different approach using the existing transport network can trial new and innovative ways of tackling loneliness. Where applicable this may involve the continuation, adaptation or expansion of existing provision
  • To fund a range of transport-related schemes that target lonely groups.

The Tackling Loneliness with Transport fund comprises both capital and resource funding streams. DfT will fund:

  • Proportionate costs associated with delivering the proposed tackling loneliness using transport pilot scheme, including salaries and recruitment costs
  • Activities that increase the evidence base and best practice sharing around loneliness and transport
  • Capital assets such as minibuses and bicycles/e-bikes
  • Revenue funding for pilot schemes that tackle loneliness using transport
  • Proportionate administrative costs associated with pilot delivery
  • Proportionate costs for IT equipment and training to encourage digital inclusion for transport pilots, up to the limit for capital assets within the applicants' accounts.

Who can apply? Local authorities, third sector organisations and charities are eligible to apply.

DfT welcome applications from umbrella organisations that wish to give funding to local organisations underneath them. Partnerships with the private sector would also be welcomed, but it is expected that grants will be awarded to local authorities or third sector organisations and charities.

Grant amount: Up to £500,000.
