Henry Smith Foundation – Domestic Abuse Fund

Aims/priorities: The funding is intended for groups that are deeply rooted in their communities and offer person-centred, holistic support that is tailored around the needs of people from marginalised and minoritised communities who have experienced domestic abuse.

The funding will enable the organisation to continue to contribute to meaningful, lasting change for survivors of domestic abuse.

Who can apply? This fund is specifically for organisations led-by-and-for marginalised and minoritised communities providing specialist domestic abuse support.

Applications will be accepted from formally registered, not-for-profit organisations with a charitable purpose (e.g., registered charities, CICs, community benefit societies) providing direct service delivery.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have a strong track record with at least three years’ experience of providing specialist domestic abuse services to their community.
  • Offer ongoing in depth and consistent support that responds to an individual’s changing needs.
  • Provide  person-centred services are tailored to the unique needs of each individual. One-to-one support, such as casework, needs to be a core part of their approach.
  • Provide holistic, wrap-around support that addresses an individual’s range of needs. This means that ideally they will provide a number of services such as counselling, safe accommodation, casework, immigration advice and practical support.
  • Have published their first annual accounts.
  • Have a safeguarding policy in place.
  • Operate primarily within the UK.

The Foundation welcomes applications from organisations of all sizes. There are no minimum or maximum income thresholds.

Grant amount: All successful applicants will receive a grant of £250,000 over five years (£50,000 per year).

It is expected that 20 grants will be made.

Accessibility support grants are also available to help cover costs such as BSL interpreters, scribes, translation services, assistive technology, or support workers:

  • £250 at the Expression of Interest stage
  • £500 at the Full Application stage (if invited).

The Foundation’s Grant team will hold a free live webinar on 12 August 2025 (13:00 to 14:00). Registration is required. A recording will be available after the event for those who cannot attend.

To start the application process, groups need to complete a short online eligibility quiz on the Foundation's website.

Eligible organisations will then be able to submit an Expression of Interest from 13 August 2025 to the deadline of 10 September 2025 (17:00).

Those who are successful will hear by 29 September 2025 if they have been invited to submit a full application. Notification of decisions is expected in early December 2025.
