Aims/priorities: The aim of the fund is to empower and facilitate community groups to embed more walking in Greater Manchester this autumn and winter, so that it becomes a normal part of everyday life in all communities. It also hopes to increase awareness of, and engagement with, the GM Walking campaign across the city region in recognition of the important role walking can play in increasing physical activity levels.

  • Encourage local communities to become more active by incorporating more walking into their everyday routines
  • Support the recruitment of ‘walking champions’, made up of organisations, community members and volunteers
  • Are designed with long-term sustainability in mind.

Who can apply? VCSE organisations which can demonstrate their intention to work with individuals and communities that may be less active or inactive. This could be people with disabilities, people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, people from lower socio-economic groups and those with long-term health conditions.

Grant amount: Small grants of up to £2,000 and medium grants of up to £5,000 will be available

Deadline: Small grants will be allocated on a rolling basis until all the funding has been awarded

The deadline to apply for a medium grant is 12.00pm, Friday 21 October 2022.
