Aims/priorities: The Gardening with Disabilities Trust, aims to help people back into gardening in spite of disability.
The Trust, entirely staffed by volunteers, awards grants so that people can adapt their gardens and make gardening possible.
Small financial grants are awarded to help groups and individuals with all kinds of mental and physical challenges to return to gardening.
The Trust offers the following support:
- The adaptation of private gardens to meet the special needs of disabled people.
- Grants towards a range of items (e.g. tools, planting tables, raised beds, paving, wheelchair access, handrails and greenhouses).
- Provision of help with special gardens in hospitals, centres and schools.
- Provide information on garden aids and techniques.
Who can apply? Applications will be considered from individuals and groups in the UK including:
- People with a wide range of disabilities including visual, physical and mental.
- People who need to re-organise gardens because of health issues.
- Residents in long stay hospitals or nursing homes who share a garden.
