Friends Provident Foundation – Building a 4D Economy Grants Programme

Friends Provident Foundation is a registered charity founded in 2001 that aims to create a fair and sustainable economic system through grant-making and investment in local community assets.

Aims/priorities:

The aim of this fund is to support projects that aim to create a fair and sustainable economy that is characterised by the four D's:

  • Diversified.
  • Decarbonised.
  • Democratised.
  • Decentralised.

Amount: Grants of up to £100,000 are available

Three types of funding are available:

  • Project Funding for work focused on a particular project or activity.
  • Core funding for organisations that have a pre-existing relationship with the Foundation. This is typically unrestricted funding that can be used in pursuit of the organisation's general mission.
  • Small Grants of up to £10,000 to support under-resourced or newer entrants to economic systems change work and to develop their ideas for a 4D economy. This might include general support for new or emerging organisations or collaboratives with a focus on creating aspects of a 4D economy. This can also include specific project funding to test new ideas or develop new approaches

Who can apply?

Applications will be accepted from charities, social enterprises, and private companies.

Organisations can only hold one grant at a time.

How to apply: 

There is a two-stage application process for Main Grant funding:

  1. Groups must submit a first-stage online application form to provide a brief description of the organisation and any proposed projects/activities. Once this is recieved, the Foundation will set up a meeting to discuss the proposal
  2. Successful applicants will then be invited to submit a full application. The deadlines for full applications to be considered at one of the quarterly trustee meetings are:
  • 31 October 2022 (noon).
  • 23 January 2023 (noon).
  • 24 April 2023 (noon).
  • 24 July 2023 (noon).
  • 16 October 2023 (noon).

The Main Grants process takes around six months from the first-stage application to the grant being offered.

There is a seperate application form and quicker assessment and decision-making process for Small Grants of up to £10,000. Applicants can apply at any time and will receive a decision within six weeks of submission.
