Edge Fund

Aims/priorities: The Fund supports efforts to create long-term change in society by addressing the causes of injustice and inequality by achieving social, economic, and environmental justice, and ending imbalances in wealth and power. It also gives people a say in where the money goes and is an alternative fund for those who struggle to get funding elsewhere.

In the current Roots Funding round, support is available for grassroots groups working to address Islamophobia, Afriphobia, racial injustice, and the legacies of British colonialism in the UK and Ireland.

The Edge Fund was initiated in early 2012 by a small group of philanthropists and activists who wanted to explore how funds could be distributed in a way that both devolves the power of donors and creates real and systemic social change.

The Fund supports grassroots groups working towards social and ecological change on issues such as anti-austerity, feminism, environmentalism, and anti-racism. Initiatives that are community-led are supported.

This funding round has been designed by Edge’s Funding Working Group, made up of 13 organisers representing 6 grassroots groups whose aims align with the Roots Fund.

Who can apply: In this round, funding is for unregistered grassroots organisations with have an annual income of less than £5,000 that are working to achieve systemic change and are driven by affected communities impacted by the far-right, racism, Islamophobia, Afriphobia, or neo-colonial violence and abuse.

Groups must have been active for at least six month and have at least three members.

Joint applications are welcomed.

Priority will be given to groups that may struggle to get funding elsewhere, particularly if other funders may consider them to be too radical.

Grant amount: Up to £1,000.
