Aims/priorities: The funding is for not-for-profit organisations to undertake further research to establish the viability of their proposed housing and support solution. Where a feasibility study demonstrates a viable and impactful housing model, Commonweal may work with partners to develop a multi-year property-based pilot project. This may include acquiring suitable properties and supporting project mobilisation, independent evaluation and wider dissemination of learning.
The funding is for organisations that understand the challenges facing young people and have bold ideas about how housing, combined with appropriate support, could make a lasting difference.
This round is focused on work being done in Wales, Scotland and England with particular interest in ideas supporting young people aged 16 and over who have experienced:
- Care
- Homelessness or housing insecurity
- Contact with the criminal justice system
- Neurodivergence
- Mental ill health (where intensive clinical support is not required)
- Exclusion from education
- Exploitation or abuse
- Other significant barriers to a successful transition into adulthood
The funder welcomes proposals addressing other overlooked transition points where housing could play a meaningful role in improving outcomes for at-risk youth.
Who can apply? Applications are accepted from charities, social enterprises, community organisations and public sector organisations in England, Scotland and Wales.
Applications from partnerships between organisations are also encouraged where different expertise is needed to develop the model.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of the issue they are seeking to address and the ability to develop the proposal into a viable housing project.
Grant amount: Between £5,000 and £8,000 are available to carry out the feasibility study.
It is anticipated that up to four grants will be awarded.
