Assessment Innovation Fund

Aims/priorities: The Assessment Innovation Fund (AIF) aims to drive large-scale reform in vocational training and skills assessment through the adoption of innovative, technology-driven solutions. The fund supports projects that focus on fully deployable assessment methods, ensuring they deliver measurable impact at scale.

AIF is not intended for early-stage development or small-scale feasibility studies. Instead, it prioritises initiatives that:

  • Implement an assessment innovation at scale, reaching a minimum of 1,000 learners.
  • Systematically measure improvements or changes in assessment practices.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based impact.

All funded projects must lead to real-world application, shaping the future of assessment while fostering trust among learners, educators, employers, and policymakers.

Who can apply? The fund welcomes applications from training providers, awarding organisations, EdTech businesses, colleges, and other organisations committed to transforming the future of assessment. Projects must utilise digital technology to support adults in the UK aged 16+ in gaining or enhancing their knowledge and skills for the workplace.

Grant amount: Each Impact Project can receive up to £125,000, with the expectation that the innovation will reach at least 1,000 learners.

The exact level of investment may vary based on the scope and alignment of the proposal with the AIF principles. Each project is evaluated individually.

Application process: Window 7 is open Expressions of Interest. Stage 1 applications close on 24 March 2025 (10:00).

Applications are made online. All interested organisations are invited to submit an expression of interest (EoI) form.
