Active travel grants for VCSE organisations

Aims/priorities: A lack of safe and secure cycle parking is a significant barrier to people building cycling into their daily lives. The provision of cycle parking alongside infrastructure is therefore key to the success of new schemes. To support organisations within Greater Manchester to deliver new cycle parking facilities which will support schemes across the region, TfGM is once again offering active travel grants for GM businesses, employers and organisations. The funding package is made up of two pots, including Business Support Grants for Active Travel Facilities and Cycle Parking Grants.

Business Support Grants for Active Travel Facilities
This grant is intended to support employers to provide interventions such as cycle parking, pool bikes and changing or storage solutions which enable staff to adopt active travel modes, including walking, running and cycling, for their journeys to and from work.

Who can apply? This grant is available to four audiences:

  • NHS settings
  • Primary, secondary and further education settings
  • Housing Associations
  • Small organisations who employ fewer than 20 staff

Organisations who are located in the one of the thirteen geographical areas within Greater Manchester which have been identified as having the greatest potential for increases in walking and cycling trips - all locations within the blue, pink and turquoise areas shown on this map are eligible

This grant is intended to be used by organisations wishing to install cycle parking that will be available for use by anyone travelling to that location by bicycle, including but not limited to staff, pupils, residents, patients and visitors. Further information is provided in this guidance document. If you are an employer that wishes to install cycle parking or other active travel facilities exclusively for the for use of your staff, you should instead apply for the business support grant which is available for this purpose.

Grant amount: Grants are available up to a maximum of £10,000 for Housing Associations, NHS and primary, secondary and further education settings. Grants are available up to a maximum of £2000 for small organisations employing fewer than 20 staff.
