Mencap Befriender (Cuppas and Kindness - Littleborough, Rochdale)

MTC Together is a befriending service for people with a learning disability, who are registered with the Mencap Trust Company. The service matches the skills and interests of passionate befrienders with the specific needs, hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Befrienders visit every month to create a 1-2-1 connection, help enhance social connections, reducing isolation, encouraging interests and support access to local community activities and resources. The person you will be visiting for this role is a joyful, woman in her 80's with a sweet tooth! We’re looking for a kind, patient befriender who can spend an hour of quality time chatting with her. You will have a budget to spend on spoiling her when you visit each month. She doesn't mind if you are male, female, old or young, she is just appreciative of the company and attention you can give to her. She lives in a busy home, so finding a quiet corner where you can focus on each other will work best. This is a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you. The person you visit might choose to take part in simple activities or watch you doing the activities. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.
