This is a parenting support circle for African parents in Tameside. Volunteers will help the monthly in-person parenting circle small group where parents come together to talk, share ideas, and learn how to take care of their children in a kind and positive way. You will help make sure everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected.

Availability: Tuesday AM
Tasks: Volunteers will:
- Help set up the room before the group starts and after
- Welcome parents and make them feel comfortable
- Listen while people share their thoughts and experiences
- Encourage everyone to be kind and respectful to each other
- Help the lead facilitator run the group activities
- Make sure everyone feels included, no matter where they come from
- Keep what people share private and safe
Training: Safeguarding level 1
Requirements: Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location
Interests: Domestic violence, Families, Health and wellbeing, Immigrants, Mental Health, Race and Ethnicity, Refugees, Social care, Women
Activities: Befriending, Providing advice, Reception, Support Work

About Hand In Hand Community CIC

Hand in Hand Community CIC was established in 2022 working with Afro-Caribbean families within Greater Manchester to develop the 'whole family' focusing on mental and emotional health. We are a grassroots organisation based in Tameside. We work with families at risk of having poor outcome in life due to lack of opportunities to acquire new skills. Core Services: - Bridging the Gap: Intergenerational Dialogue - Balancing Roles and Self - Roots & Resilience: Afro-Caribbean Parenting Program - 1-2-1 Coaching - EMBRACING ME: Confidence • Resilience • Identity - For Children & Young People (Ages 8–18) - Becoming Me Youth Mentoring Program - For Afro-Caribbean Young People (Ages 15 – 18) The aim is to: - Learning opportunities to empower families to make positive changes to achieve the best possible outcomes in life. - Provide culturally appropriate support to parents to become ‘the best parents they can be’ to be able to promote and support their children’s learning, growth, and development at home. - Provide age-appropriate workshops to develop resilience, promote positive self-image, and wellbeing of children and young people to become the best versions of themselves as well as provide opportunities for children to socialise in a safe environment. We know that, parents who feel empowered and are emotionally available are better equipped to support and promote their children’s learning, growth, and development. This increases their chances to achieve the best outcomes in life and be impactful within their community. We also know that when one family member is struggling, it has an impact on other family members and the family dynamics and functioning.
