Home-Start volunteers offer regular, confidential support to local families with young children who may be facing challenging circumstances. Through home visits, group sessions, or other support roles, you’ll help parents feel empowered, listened to, and less isolated. No special qualifications are needed—just parenting experience and a non-judgmental, supportive approach.

Key information

  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Start Date: 24th June 2025
  • End Date: 24th June 2030
  • Volunteer: Weekly, Fortnightly
  • Tasks: Visit a family at home for 2–3 hours each week

    Offer practical help and emotional support

    Encourage parents in their parenting journey

    Maintain confidentiality and respect family choices

    Attend training and regular supervision sessions

    Support families to build confidence and independence
  • Training: What We’re Looking For
    You are a parent or have parenting experience

    You can commit to volunteering for at least one year

    You are caring, reliable, and good at listening

    You understand the pressures of family life

    You are committed to confidentiality

    You are willing to complete a free Volunteer Preparation Course

    You are happy to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide two references
  • Requirements: Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location
  • Interests: Children, Families, Health and wellbeing, Men, Race and Ethnicity, Women
  • Suitability: 18 and over
  • Activities: Befriending, Lending a helping hand, Support Work
  • Skills: Listening, Organising, Reasoning, Talking to others, Teamwork
  • DBS Check: Yes
