The This is What an Activist Looks Like in Tameside video was commissioned by the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network and supported by Tameside Council, Population Health, Talking About my Generation, Ambition for Ageing, Spirit of Manchester, Age Friendly Tameside and the National Lottery Community Fund.

The collaborative video celebrates the fantastic work happening locally to support communities, such as local residents Lisa and Manhar. Lisa organises weekly walking sessions to encourage people to enjoy healthier lifestyles and Manhar, through the Shree Bharatiya Indian Association, has delivered more than 10,000 meals to his community with the help of his grandson.

The premiere, which took place at the Grafton Centre in Hyde in March also consisted of talks and presentations from the organisations who commissioned the video as well as networking opportunities. It was a great opportunity for local residents to sign up to be part of the GM Older People’s Network, or more locally to become an Age Friendly Champion or Nutrition and Hydration Champion.

Lauren Foster, from Population Health, who leads on Age Friendly Tameside said “I am incredibly proud of our borough and the strong connections that are being formed to benefit our local residents. These are bringing us closer as a community, especially for our older people who were disproportionately impacted by social isolation throughout the pandemic. It is through community cohesion, as demonstrated in this video and in places like the Grafton Centre that we can come together to live healthier, happier lives".
