It has been an amazing year for Tameside groups who received their King’s Award for Voluntary Service last week in Manchester.
We hear from some of the groups who attended and what the award meant to them.
"It was a great honour to receive the King's Award for Voluntary Service 2024. As one of the many, dedicated community volunteers, we feel extremely proud to have been recognised for the projects we have participated in throughout our local area."

"We feel extremely honoured to have received this prestigious award. which recognisies the work of all our dedicated volunteers. It so deeply rewarding to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of all of our amazing volunteers. We are really looking forward to attending garden party at Buckingham palace. We are truly grateful to Mike Glover, Local Councillor for Tameside and Sandra Jackson from Action Together for supporting us to apply the award."

"St Gabriel's Church is located near Stamford Park, Ashton. It's the smallest church in Ashton’s ‘Parish of the Good Shepherd’ but it has a big presence, explaining why its community project won the coveted King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) last November. St Gabriel’s award was richly served. From small beginnings, it now comprises a vast array of projects."
Revd Dr Paul Monk | Vicar of Ashton
"We are delighted to receive this award that recognises the very hard work of the staff and volunteers at diversity matters. We are particularly pleased that the award recognises the influence of volunteers and the community in developing our work and delivering services which meet the needs of our local residents."
Caroline Gregory | Chair, Diversity Matters Northwest
“It was an honour to receive this award, and we were thrilled to be invited to attend such a wonderful ceremony. We are extremely proud of the hard work, passion, and dedication that our volunteers give, and it is a great achievement that this has been recognised by others especially with such a high accolade.”
