Sue Green, group leader for the Tameside Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group was honoured to accept this award on behalf of the group and her late husband Clive Green.
Being diagnosed and living with a lung condition can be challenging. The group offers the opportunity to meet others who understand what you are going through and are open to anyone affected by pulmonary fibrosis - patients, family, carers and friends.
The group have a range of speakers on topics such as singing for lung health, keeping active, healthy eating, mental wellbeing, travel insurance and the latest news in research and treatments. Specialist staff are sometimes available for information and advice, and they also arrange informal social events from time to time.
Sue Green comments:
"Clive and I were nominated earlier in the year while Clive was still alive, but we didn’t know, and I only found out in May when I was informed that we had reached the final three, in the Community Champion category.
Clive was the inspiration and driving force in the group, and from day one he knew what he wanted people to get out of coming to group - information, friendship and understanding. We have worked together over the past 7 years and built the group into what it is today, and we are global. We will keep Clive’s legacy alive by working hard to achieve better care for Pulmonary Fibrosis patients, and we live in hope that one day a drug will be found that can stop this horrific disease in it's tracks.
People often say that they don’t feel quite so alone once they have found us. We can’t ask for anything better than that."
