Tameside Communities Fund 2025

The Tameside Communities Fund aims to strengthen new and existing community led prevention, with a focus on activity which is locally rooted, reduces inequalities and supports local people to live healthier and happier lives.

Supporting Communities to Live Well

The Tameside Communities fund aims to strengthen new and existing community led prevention, with a focus on activity which is locally rooted, reduces health, social and economic inequalities and supports local people to live healthier and happier lives.

It brings together internal and external funding to invest in community led prevention, that is locally rooted across neighbourhoods and supports communities to Live Well.

The Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector plays a leading role in community-led prevention, with the connection, trust and understanding of local people and their wider determinants of health and wellbeing.

There are an estimated 1,223 VCFSE organisations making a difference in Tameside, tackling inequality, reducing hardship, and enriching people’s lives.

Principles of the Fund | A Tameside Fund for Tameside Communities

The following Community-led Wellbeing Principles have been co-designed with Tameside's VCFSE sector across as part of Tameside Live Well.

They are the overarching principles for the fund and will guide as the foundation for the design, promotion and decision making for all grant streams that sit within the fund

Community-led wellbeing principles describe the behaviours, hopes and values that are intrinsic to community led prevention and the VCFSE sector in Tameside.

  • We work with people one life at a time – on their terms, at their pace for as long as they need us.

  • People trust in us, to work alongside them consistently with compassion, and without judgement. We don’t give up on people.

  • We are safe open spaces where everyone can feel connected, and feel they belong.

  • We are peers and facilitators within communities who can spot the signs of what is really going on with others and encourage them to make informed choices.

  • We are the trusted voice within communities and the link to everything else, advocating for the most vulnerable and those in crisis.

  • We offer positivity and hope - opportunities for people to gain a sense of purpose and grow their skills, confidence, and resilience.

  • We are our communities. We grew out of our communities; we are committed to being here for the long term.

Fund Priorities | Reducing Inequalities

Tameside’s Locality plan: Building Back Fairer, Stronger and Together sets out the ambition to improving the health of Tameside residents and prioritises the following themes:

  • Best Start In Life
  • Opportunity to Learn & Earn
  • Safe, Green and Supportive Communities
  • Healthy & Active Lives

The Tameside Communities fund will support these system priorities by tackling the health, social and economic inequalities that exist across Tameside, and invest in locally rooted, community led prevention to reach those most marginalised and vulnerable across communities.

Funding Model | Reflecting Community Needs

The Tameside Community Fund will offer different levels of funding to ensure local investment is available to strengthen the whole sector. From local community groups to larger organisations, the VCFSE sector ranges in size, type and function and this funding model reflects the diversity of the sector.

VCFSE sector organisations, particularly those who employ staff (we know that 85% of VCSFE expenditure is on staffing) are now facing further rise in costs with the increase in the Real Living wage, and Employer National Insurance contributions. We expect this will put additional financial pressure on the VCFSE sector. We have taken all this into account and have uplifted the larger fund amounts to reflect these increases.

We are therefore proposing an 11% uplift in the award levels, starting from the small to medium grants to mitigate the rise in costs. This is specifically targeted at those organisations who employ staff, as well as providing the ability for those organisations who have ambitions to grow to meet increased demand within communities
