Racial Inequality Learning Programme Fund

Action Together secured some investment from the former Clinical Commissioning Group to curate an anti-racism learning programme for VCFSE sector. We invited members to apply via the usual application process to support this programme.

Successful projects were required to fall within one, or more, of the following priorities:

  • Deliver online, or in-person, learning experiences that explore the importance of cultural competency, understanding privilege and whiteness, representation, or cultural literacy.
  • Deliver training on anti-racist practices, policies or processes.
  • Develop peer support spaces for VCFSE workforce (including volunteers, employees, and community leaders) experiencing racial inequalities.
  • Provide a mentoring and/or leadership development programme for the VCFSE workforce (including volunteers, employees and community leaders) experiencing racial inequalities.

Awakening Minds

£6,000

The project aims to develop and deliver a comprehensive cultural competency training programme, by simplifying content strategies and concepts, using various forms of media. The programme aims to educate participants about cultural competency, understanding privilege and whiteness, representation, and cultural competency. It will provide practical tools, resources, and strategies for fostering EDI in various context.

Caribbean and African Health Network

  • To provide a direct interactive three-hour learning programme that delivers cultural humility training.
  • To provide strategies and tools that identify ways to embed training into everyday practices (this would be a reflective form EDI type section, questions).
  • To provide a tool to that reaffirms learning and ongoing review of anti-racist practices.

Theatre in Flow

We would like to develop;

  • A programme of training covering cultural competence and anti-racist practice. It would cover skills in working in diverse communities, understanding whiteness, white supremacy and challenging institutional racism. We would anticipate 6 x half-day sessions over a six-month period.
  • A peer coaching and action learning space for frontline staff working in the VCFSE sector who experience racial inequalities. We would offer 16 hours of coaching (8 x 2 hour sessions).
  • Run an anti-racist reading group, creating a space for members to debate and further develop their knowledge of key narratives in anti-racist discourse. The aim of this group would be to increase allyship locally and potentially create a pool of additional AR facilitators. There would 5 x 2.5 hour sessions, plus 5 x 30 minute check-ins. This will be a new project, running over a six-month period.

Maverick Lab

Deliver of three x 4 hour programmes covering the following:

  • The Leadership Training Workshops: Conduct a series of interactive workshops covering topics such as leadership theories, effective communication, conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, cultural competency, and addressing racial biases.
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Provide participants with access to experienced mentors and coaches who can offer guidance, support, and feedback throughout the programme.
  • Experiential Learning: Offer opportunities for participants to apply their learning in real-world situations through projects, case studies, and simulations.
  • Action Planning: Assist participants in developing action plans to address racial inequalities within their organisations and communities.
