LocalMotion is a social, economic and environmental justice movement of six communities across the UK, including Oldham which is driven by communities, for communities.
LocalMotion seeks to understand local strengths in the places where we live and work. With the aim to challenge typical power structures and hierarchies that become barriers to a community’s progress and hold us back. The task is huge.
There are plenty of moving parts, conflicting agendas, varying priorities and old practices to overcome. With the clear vision, determination and commitment with the imagination to see things differently and the will to rethink current processes and systems, with the hope that lasting positive change can come about.
Our vision:
Our mission for LocalMotion Oldham is to ensure “Oldham’s buzzing and making a real difference by connecting people and opportunities for lifelong change “. We will achieve this by:
- Tackling the root causes of poverty.
- Creating a local economy that works for everyone.
- Strengthening community pride and belonging.
Local Motion is a consortium of 6 funders who are investing in Oldham and that investment is being shaped by communities, for communities. Testing ways of achieving long-term systemic change that tackles the root causes of social, environmental, and economic injustices based on local community priorities. Our aim is to:
- learn as much as possible about how collaborations, can work to achieve impactful change with local communities as well as influencing changes to funder practice.
- Work together to achieve our vision for Oldham.
With LocalMotion comes an initial investment opportunity to achieve our vision, as well as a potential further 8-year long term investment opportunity.
