Aims/priorities: The LGBT+ Fund: Get Active Fund provides support for community-based LGBT+ sports and physical activity organisations and projects across the UK. The fund aims to increase resources available to groups that are under-recognised by funding initiatives and improve access to physical activity for LGBT+ communities.
The fund will prioritise grassroots organisations supporting LGBT+ people who face additional barriers to participation. It recognises that LGBT+ individuals can experience social and systemic barriers that may reduce participation in physical activities, including within settings intended to be inclusive.
For the purposes of the fund, physical activity is defined as activity that intentionally and explicitly facilitates increased physical movement and wellbeing. Eligible activities may include hiking, skateboarding, football, ballroom and vogue, gardening, frisbee, dance and circus skills.
Who can apply? Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a UK-based LGBT+ led non-profit group or organisation that is led by and for LGBT+ people.
- Regularly deliver sports or physical activities, either as an LGBT+ sports or physical activity organisation or as an LGBT+ organisation delivering projects focused on sport or physical activity. Sports or physical activity projects delivered within the last three years are considered recent.
- Have been running for at least six months.
For the purposes of the fund, physical activity means activity that intentionally and explicitly facilitates increased physical movement and wellbeing. Examples include hiking, skateboarding, football, ballroom and vogue, gardening, frisbee, dance and circus skills.
The fund will prioritise organisations and projects supporting underserved intersectional LGBT+ communities, including D/deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent LGBT+ people, LGBT+ women, LGBT+ people of faith, LGBT+ people of the global majority, older LGBT+ people and trans, non-binary and/or intersex people.
Priority will also be given to organisations and projects that:
- Are based in historically underfunded areas of the LGBT+ sector, including the North-East, East and South-West of England and the Devolved Nations.
- Operate in areas with limited provision for LGBT+ communities, including rural and remote areas.
- Support intersectional or multiply marginalised LGBT+ communities facing multiple forms of discrimination.
