Job: Finance Worker

Somali Adult Social Care Agency (SASCA) wants to appoint an experienced and motivated Finance Worker to play a key role in strengthening our financial sustainability. This is a new post funded by Manchester City Council and others for 3 years and an opportunity for someone who wants to use their financial expertise to support a busy generalist information, advocacy and advice centre in Moss Side with mostly part time employees and volunteers and run mostly by and for Somalis.

Key tasks will include: 1. Bookkeeping – maintaining, and initiating where needed, systems for recording all income and expenditure covering cash, bank and all other payments 2. Budgeting & Financial Planning a. Calculations for the annual budgeting process for the organisation as a whole and component projects/grants: preparation, maintenance and reporting. b. Monitoring organisational and project budgets each month, highlighting risks, and variations. c. Calculations of costings for funding bids, projects etc. to ensure full cost recovery and sustainable delivery. 3. Financial Controls & Systems a. Maintain the accuracy and security/integrity of all financial data b. Ensure strong internal financial controls are operating effectively across all finance processes. c. Identify and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy and compliance. 4. Financial Reporting a. calculate monthly, quarterly and annual accounts, including reconciliations. b. Advise the Manager and Board on financial matters to support organisational decision-making. 5. Payroll a. Oversee SASCA’s monthly payroll cycle, ensuring all calculations are accurate and compliant with current legislation. b. Ensure timely communications with and payments to HMRC and pensions provider 6. Accountant and Audit a. Routine liaison with our auditors/accountants b. Prepare all documents required for the annual audit. c. Produce draft year-end financial statements for review by the Manager and Treasurer 7. Invoices/Credit Control a. Ensure payments out are made in good time and recorded accurately. b. Ensure money receivable is received on time and recorded accurately. c. Liaison with creditors and debtors to ensure payments in and out take place on time and accurately 8. Organisational financial competence a. Close liaison with Treasurer and Manager on financial matters b. Preparation of “how to guides” on key aspects of financial matters c. Leading occasional staff/Board sessions on key financial systems; budgeting etc. 9. Responsibilities for all SASCA staff a. Participate in regular staff team meetings and line management sessions b. Write and submit a report on work completed/to do to the Manager at least quarterly c. Manage own time and workload, whilst also working as part of a wider team d. Understand and promote SASCA’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities e. Understand and comply with SASCA’s policies and procedures, f. Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation g. Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the post – as required by the Manager
