Funding Focus 2025: A Stronger Together Centre

This April, we’re thrilled to introduce our month-long communications campaign 'Funding Focus' dedicated to sharing funding information and support for the voluntary, community, faith group and social enterprise sector in Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside.

The Together Centre is charity located in Dukinfield. The Centre is a thriving community hub proving a range of community activities for the community including a food pantry, community café, inclusive activities and support groups for all ages.

As part of their development aims, the centre were keen to boost their income not only to ensure their future sustainability but to look at more opportunities to offer services for vulnerable families especially around food and healthy eating.

Action Together’s Community Development Worker, Jon King met with Karen, the manager to discuss potential ideas and how we could deliver in different areas of the Together Centre to support all ages of our community. Jon was able to work with the manager to apply for The National Lottery Awards for All grant. An application had been submitted in previous years but had not been successful. Jon provided support to complete the application and offered advice on where sections could be improved e.g. when applying for an Awards for All grant, it’s important to focus on how your project will benefit the community, address needs, and make a positive impact. Karen undertook consultation with the community to really drill down into what they wanted at the centre.

A second application was then submitted and was successful. An award of just under £20,000 was granted. The trustees and volunteers were delighted and Karen was now in a position to plan for the activities the community wanted which would make a huge difference to their lives. Part of this funding was to continue supporting vulnerable people and their families with food which helps up to 50 families per week via their food pantry.

Karen explains what a difference working with Action Together has made:

I can now start to focus on other projects.  I have a lot more confidence now with funding than I did before and being awarded with the funding from The Lottery made such an impact to each and every one of us here at the centre.

Thank you to Jon from Action Together for the support in the process of applying!
