Friends Of Fir Bank's bid to save school climbing frame

Friends Of Fir Bank received £1,000 from the One Oldham Fund Children & Young People's Grant. This was used to raise the funds to repair their well-loved wooden climbing frame.

Our school climbing frame has been a much-loved part of Fir Bank’s playground for several years, providing endless fun and adventure for the children. However, being made of wood and exposed to the elements, it gradually began to show signs of wear and tear.

Over time, some areas became weak and in need of repair to ensure it remained safe for everyone to use. Rather than losing such a fantastic piece of equipment, we decided to take action and raise funds to restore it.

That’s when the idea for our Let’s Get Muddy fundraiser was born—bringing the community together to help fix our climbing frame and keep it a key part of our playground for years to come!

With our Let’s Get Muddy fundraiser, we aimed to bring the Fir Bank community together to raise the necessary funds to repair our well-loved wooden climbing frame, ensuring it remains a safe and exciting space for the children to enjoy.

We called upon a trusted repairs company to provide a quote for the repairs, providing us with a benchmark to work on, our aim was to have the funds in place by the end of the Autumn term.

Planning a sponsored event and with the incredible support from Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT), a local photographer, and the dedication of our children, staff, and parents, we were able to create a fun and memorable event that raised lots of money and strengthened our school community spirit.

Everyone played a vital role, from the enthusiastic children tackling the muddy assault course to the parents cheering them on and the photographer for capturing the special moments. With this teamwork and support, we moved one step closer to restoring our climbing frame, keeping playtime adventurous for years to come!

To bring our Let’s Get Muddy fundraiser to life, we took plenty of action behind the scenes to make it a success. With the amazing support of Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT), we were able to set up an exciting obstacle course for the children to tackle.

We sent letters inviting parents to come along and support the event and created fundraiser forms so everyone could collect sponsorships for taking part in the muddy challenge.

To boost our fundraising efforts, we also held a raffle with fantastic prizes and sold hot drinks and biscuits to keep everyone warm and energized.

Although we initially worried that the weather might be an obstacle, it turned out to be on our side, making the day even more enjoyable.

Thanks to all the planning and teamwork, the event was a huge success!

Our Fir Bank Let’s Get Muddy fundraiser was a fantastic success, bringing together students, parents, and staff for a fun-filled day of adventure and community spirit.

The event featured a thrilling muddy assault course where participants braved obstacles, splashed through puddles, and got covered head to toe in mud—all in the name of raising money to help fix our beloved climbing frame.

Parents gathered to cheer on the children, capturing muddy memories and celebrating their determination. Laughter and excitement filled the air as everyone embraced the challenge, making it a day to remember.

Thanks to the incredible support from our school community, and Action Together we have been able to restore the climbing frame for everyone to enjoy!
