Flowhesion is about Community Cohesion. We simply want all communities to live better, feel better and achieve more! Our vision is one of vibrant, balanced communities where everyone feels they belong, areas that value each other’s cultures and contributions, localities that have high aspirations for themselves and others and places where people who want to build strong, civic and social foundations do just that!
X arrived in the UK from Bangladesh to marry a man who was much older than her.
She settled into life in the UK and soon became pregnant.
When her daughter was born, her husband wasn’t very happy about the child being a girl, so he sent them both back to Bangladesh.
Eventually, the husband saw the error of his ways and decided for X and their daughter to return to the UK.
A short time after X and her daughter arrived back in the UK, X's husband died suddenly.
It was upon his death that X discovered that her late husband had left his entire estate, land and property to the child.
X's late husband’s family began raising concerns about her parenting and decided the child would be better off being raised by the deceased's family.
X by this stage was clinically depressed, traumatised by the removal of her child and the treatment of her in-laws.
She was admitted to a Mental Health Facility in Blackpool where she remained for some time before being resettled in Oldham. She was referred to our silver lining project by a Social Prescriber, who worked closely with her GP surgery.
X supported the individual during her relocation to Oldham and then referred her to The Flowhesion Foundation’s Silver Lining programme.
They first came to our Mind, Body, Soul Sessions in early January 2021 and we were all very concerned about her.
She was extremely withdrawn; she would sit alone and could not maintain eye contact with anyone.
Eventually as people started to find out more of X's story, the ladies took it onboard themselves to try and encourage her to take part in the sessions, which she reluctantly did.
The individual has accessed TFF Umeed Counselling Service having 8 sessions rather than the usual 6.
Activities X now takes part in as a result of the silver lining project include weekly:
- Yoga
- Chat and Chai (Coffee Morning)
- Literacy coaching
- Mental health sessions
More recently X and her friend attended the foundation’s Jubilee Celebration Afternoon Tea in Bolton.
Things have moved on with X, she is more engaged, proactive and energetic, but far more engaged with the other ladies and the team at Flowhesion.
She actively seeks out conversations around healthy eating and can be known to smile, laugh and joke with the other ladies.
