You may have seen information in the press, or on social media, that a hotel in the Oldham area is currently being used by the Home Office as emergency temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. Whilst the hotel will provide food most asylum seekers will have very few, if any, personal possessions and we are currently seeking donations of the following items if anyone is able to help:
- Basic men’s jogging bottoms/ T shirts/ hoodies
- Men’s coats/jackets
- Men’s underwear and socks
- Men’s shoes (especially size 9,10,11)
Whilst living in the hotel asylum seekers will be given £8 per week for themselves to spend. Given that their available funds is so limited and also based on feedback from some of the areas where there are already hotels we are also seeking any board games which you may have which are surplus to requirements. They are also looking at other options for activities that may be able to be delivered.
All items can be taken to the Oldham Foodbank in Vulcan Street, Oldham, OL1 4ER. Opening times are 9am until 3pm, Monday to Friday.
