As part of our late Diwali celebrations, members of the Action Together team had the pleasure of visiting the Indian Association Oldham. The visit was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our local community and learn more about Hindu culture and traditions.
Our visit began with a warm welcome from the temple’s volunteers, followed by a delicious meal and time to catch up with our peers.
We were invited into the beautifully decorated temple, where volunteer Krishnaben, introduced our team to the temple’s Murtis (idols of deities that are worshiped) and explained their stories and significance to Hinduism.
Krishnaben then delivered a thoughtful presentation about Hinduism and Hindu culture, covering the beliefs, values, and practices that shape the lives of many people in our community. It was an insightful session that sparked meaningful conversations and also allowed us to spot similarities within the different cultures of our team at Action Together too.
The volunteers encouraged us to join them in a celebratory dance performance to end our visit, making sure we ended with positive energy for our Diwali celebrations.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Indian Association Oldham for hosting us, and to all the volunteers for their warm hospitality, generosity, and enthusiasm.
