Community Development Worker – Move More

The role

This post will join our existing Community Development team and will lead and coordinate place- based approaches that enable Oldham residents to become more active to improve their health and wellbeing. You will work collaboratively with residents, voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations, partners and stakeholders to strengthen communities, champion the benefits of physical activity and social connection, and develop sustainable solutions that are shaped by local needs. 

As a Community Development Worker, you will be supporting individuals and groups to develop their ideas and initiatives, and contribute to creating healthier, more resilient communities where everyone feels safe, supported and able to thrive. 

The postholder will also work across local, Greater Manchester and national systems to ensure that tackling health inequalities remains central to the design and delivery of physical activity and wellbeing opportunities in Oldham.

The ideal candidate 

You will be passionate about the positive impact that physical activity and community connection can have on people's lives and wellbeing. You will believe in the power of communities to shape healthier, more active lives.

You will have experience of building trusted relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations and be confident engaging and communicating with people from diverse backgrounds. 

You will be a skilled facilitator and collaborative problem-solver, who is able to turn ideas into action and support community-led initiatives to thrive. With a strong understanding of community development, inclusion, and the VCFSE sector, particularly grassroots and volunteer-led organisations, and you will be a confident advocate for the sector and be committed to tackling inequalities and promoting social justice across Oldham's communities.
