ChurchCare

Aims/Priorities: ChurchCare is the Church of England's Cathedral and Church Buildings Division. It works in partnership with various grant-giving bodies to provide funding for the conservation of historic church interiors and churchyard structures, to ensure that conservation projects in Anglican churches across England are carried out to a high standard. 

Grants are available for the conservation of historical books, manuscripts and parochial libraries. Grants for books and manuscripts are offered in partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, and the Oswald Allen bequest.

Who can apply: Anglian churches in England.

Grant amount: Grants of up to £10,000 are available. 

Grants for Books and Manuscripts - Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of books and manuscripts of historic or artistic significance in Anglican parish churches. Support is also available for the preventive conservation work in parochial libraries (ie, the installation of conservation-grade storage and display furniture).

Grants for Church Plate – Offered in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, grants of no set value are available to help Anglican churches repair church plate and ensure its regular use by congregations. Please note in the last round there were no applications, so applications are particularly encouraged for this round.

Grants for Churchyard Structures - Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of churchyard structures such as tombs, external monuments, grave markers, churchyard walls, railings and gates.

Grants for Metalwork - Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of monumental brasses and decorative metalwork that is of historic, artistic, or archaeological significance. Eligible projects include the conservation of metal screens, internal railings, plaques and memorials. Please note in the last round there were no applications, so applications are particularly encouraged for this round.

Grants for Monuments - Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of monuments with historical, artistic, architectural, or archaeological significance.

Grants for Textiles – Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of textiles of historic, architectural, archaeological or artistic significance.

Grants for Woodwork and Wooden Objects – Grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of woodwork and wooden objects - such as reredoses, screens, wooden crosses, pulpits and pews - that are of artistic, historical, archaeological or architectural significance.

Application process: An application form is available to complete online and must be submitted with the relevant supporting documentation. Applicants may discuss the eligibility of their project with ChurchCare either by phoning, by email or by sending a message via the ChurchCare contact page.

Deadline:  26 October 2026 with decisions by 11 December 2026.

Applications are also being accepted for grants for bells/bell frames (deadline 22 June), clocks (deadline 14 September), organs (deadline 5 October), and stained glass (24 August)
