Miles and Smiles started in 2006 to help meet the gap in service provision for people who don't have their own transport and who don't qualify for hospital transport and to reduce the number of missed appointments.
We are now celebrating an amazing 20 years!
This milestone is more than just a number, it’s a reflection of all the volunteer hours our Miles of Smiles drivers have given to enable and support Tameside residents to arrive at their health and wellbeing appointments safely and securely.
“Miles of Smiles is a haven because you're cossetted and loved and approached and feel secure… but the biggest thing for me is they make me independent.”
Olga | Passenger
“I love doing the driving because some of these people might not see anybody all day. So I ring them the day before on what time I'm going to pick them up so they feel reassured that we're going to hopefully get there in plenty of time.
I just love giving something back to the community.”
Kath | Driver
We have produced a video to say thank you, to celebrate and to hear from the passengers and drivers who explain what Miles of Smiles means to them.
