The investment of the Community Cohesion & Resilience Programme (CCRP) through Oldham Council has provided an opportunity for local boxing clubs and their young leaders to engage in a programme of workshops and a weekend residential, with a focus around building positive community relationships and tackling harmful narratives.
Following on from completion of the programme each boxing club and their young leaders have an opportunity to implement the learnings through the design and delivery of a community-based project promoting cohesion.
The activities delivered through this grant focused on two main priorities:
- Community Connections: enhance social cohesion by improving residents' sense of belonging, trust, and perception of harmony within their local area
- Countering Extremism & Hate Crime: increase awareness of extremist narratives and hate crime, and provide guidance on how to respond
