Volunteering Support Officer (Rochdale)

We connect people with what’s happening in their community, develop community ideas into action, strengthen local organisations, and provide strategic influence for the charity and voluntary sector.

The Action Together team is vital in achieving the charity's purpose - to maximise opportunities to create positive social change; promote social justice and harness social benefit; and to strengthen the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.

We're looking for people who share our values to join our team.

Volunteering Support Officer (Rochdale)

The role

As a Volunteering Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in championing volunteering across the borough. Working within Rochdale’s volunteering team, you’ll deliver a high-quality, person-centred service to individuals exploring volunteering and to volunteer managers across the VCFSE sector.

You’ll support people through every step of their volunteering journey by responding to enquiries, delivering 1:1 guidance, and matching volunteers to meaningful opportunities. Alongside this, you’ll help promote volunteering through outreach events, campaigns, and community hubs, with a focus on improving access and engagement for underrepresented groups.

You’ll also work closely with partners and colleagues to support volunteering projects, maintain accurate records and impact data, and contribute to a professional, collaborative, and responsive volunteering service that makes a real difference in Rochdale.

The ideal candidate

You'll have experience working with volunteers and supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds, adapting your approach to meet different needs and levels of understanding. You’ll have a good understanding of the VCFSE sector and the vital contribution volunteers make, alongside knowledge of volunteering best practice.

You’ll be a strong communicator who is confident building positive, trusting relationships with individuals, community groups and partner organisations. You’ll work well both independently and as part of a team, managing your own workload, using initiative and prioritising effectively.

You’ll be comfortable using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel ) and you’ll be able to maintain accurate records to support monitoring and reporting. You’ll also be able to travel across Rochdale to deliver outreach and community-based activity as needed.
