Soul Sisters is a domestic abuse charity dedicated to empowering survivors and their children to live independent lives, free from violence and fear. Guided by our core values of trust, respect, inclusion, compassion, and empowerment, we provide a safe and supportive space for those who need us.
The role has been designed to provide a safe welcoming and engaging environment for children while their mothers are participating in a peer support session. Volunteers will assist by engaging in activities, enabling mothers to fully engage in much needed support with confidence that their children are being cared for. Volunteers will contribute to the wellbeing of children and families by promoting a positive, nurturing atmosphere while adhering to safeguarding policies and practices.

- Volunteer: Weekly
- Availability: Friday AM, Friday PM
- Tasks: Welcome children and help them settle in.
Supervise children at all times, ensuring safety and wellbeing
Plan and facilitate age appropriate play, crafts and games and other engaging activities
Create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported
Encourage positive behaviour and help children engage respectfully with each other.
Respond appropriately to children’s individual needs, seeking support from staff where necessary.
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, child protection policies and report any concerns immediately.
Maintain appropriate volunteer to child ratios and ensure children remain in designated areas.
Support children with needs, such as encouraging handwashing, assisting with snacks (where applicable) and promoting good hygiene practices.
Set up and tidy away toys, equipment and activity materials before and after sessions.
Communicate professionally with staff parents/carers as directed and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Record attendance or complete any required session records in line with organisational procedure.
Attend volunteer induction, safeguarding training and any other relevant training.
Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure the session runs smoothly.
Reassure children who may feel unsettled when separated from their parents
Support children of different backgrounds, needs, ages and abilities.
Ensure toys and equipment are safe, clean and suitable to use, reporting any damages.
Follow sign in-out procedures to ensure children are safely reunited with their parents/carer.
Support emergency procedures, including fire evacuations and first aid arrangements by following instructions. - Training: Experience is not necessary
Experience with supporting from diverse backgrounds or those facing challenges is desirable
Reference: A reference provided after 12 months of volunteering with us.
Certificate: A certificate of appreciation upon completing an agreed number of volunteer hours.
Expenses Paid: Reimbursement for travel and a small subsidy to support your role.
