Soul Sisters is a domestic abuse charity dedicated to empowering survivors and their children to live independent lives, free from violence and fear. Guided by our core values of trust, respect, inclusion, compassion, and empowerment, we provide a safe and supportive space for those who need us.
We are seeking compassionate and committed individuals with lived experience of domestic abuse to volunteer as Peer Support Volunteers. In this role, you will provide emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals currently navigating the challenges of domestic abuse. Your personal experience will help to empower others, offering hope and understanding within a supportive group setting.
By sharing experiences and fostering mutual support, you will help create a safe space where participants feel empowered and less isolated on their journey toward healing.

- Start Date: 16th July 2026
- End Date: 1st January 2028
- Volunteer: Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly
- Tasks: Help facilitate group discussions, ensuring all participants feel heard and respected, while contributing to a supportive group dynamic.
Creating a welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental environment for participants.
Offering emotional support and encouragement to individuals during group sessions.
Encouraging participants to share their experiences, building confidence and resilience.
Recognising and escalating any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate team member.
Providing feedback to the Soul Sisters team to help improve the peer support program
Empathy and the ability to listen without judgment.
Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach.
An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the challenges faced by survivors of domestic abuse.
Reliability, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Refer group members to additional resources and services where necessary, supporting them in accessing professional help.
Work closely with the group facilitator and other professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies to protect the privacy and safety of all participants.

You have personal experience of domestic abuse and are now in a position to offer support to others going through similar experiences.
*Empathy and Compassion:*
You can listen and provide understanding without judgment, offering emotional support to those in need.
*Strong Communication Skills:*
You can communicate clearly and sensitively, adapting to the needs of different individuals in the group.
*Non-Judgmental Attitude:*
You respect the experiences and perspectives of others, regardless of their background or situation.
*Commitment to Confidentiality:*
You understand the importance of maintaining the confidentiality and safety of participants at all times.
*Team Player:*
You are comfortable working in collaboration with professionals and other volunteers to provide the best support for group members. - Training: No prior experience is required—training and support will be provided.
Free Training: Guidance on facilitating peer support and understanding domestic abuse dynamics.
Mentor Support: Ongoing support from the Soul Sisters team and experienced volunteers.
Reference: A reference provided after 12 months of volunteering with us.
Certificate: A certificate of appreciation upon completing an agreed number of volunteer hours.
Expenses Paid: Reimbursement for travel and a small subsidy to support your role.
