About the host organisation

Hosted by: Hattersley Community Big Garden Project
Organisation Profile: We are a registered CIC Non Profit Organisation, situated near Union Close off Hattersley Road West, in Hattersley. We run a community led garden project, the aim of which is to provide opportunities for those with mental health or those who just want to contribute their time and skills, to help develop an area in which to relax, to maybe learn some new skills or learn how to grow your own food. We link in with local primary schools to arrange visits to the area to attend workshops that teach the children how to identify a variety of garden wildlife, as well as classes on composting, recycling and understanding how to grow food. We also have classes for adults on upcycling, garden DIY, basic woodwork and horticulture. The area is in development and has the support and backing of local GP surgery's, schools and housing associations. There are plans to create a café, garden centre, meeting places for hire and hosting events. We are in need of volunteers who are skilled woodworkers/carpenters, electricians, grounds maintenance workers, gardeners, assistance to coordinate school children's visits (DBS Required) and anyone who can spare a few hours a week to help develop a protected site into an area of outstanding natural beauty and resource, so that the entire community can benefit from it.
