Volunteer Placement Opportunity for Organisations

ASTM Oldham is an adult training organisation that is partnered with Nescot, a Government funded college in Surrey. We are currently developing a level 4 & 5 HNC/HND programme in Social and Community Work. Our students are adult learners and are completing this course for a qualification which gives many varied opportunities for them to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way. All our learners have already achieved a level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. Part of the programme of study is a requirement of work experience, this is around 225 hours within the academic year (30 weeks from the course start date). We have organised the programme of study to incorporate this. Learners are required to attend college 3 days a week and will be required to complete a minimum of 7.5 hours a week how this is completed is open to negotiation with the placement organisation willing to take our students on and students can be encouraged to do more as long as it does not interfere with the timetabled theoretical class sessions. All students will have an enhanced DBS check and will not commence placement until this has been received and checked. Learners are adult learners and therefore can fulfil the majority of tasks required in the sector apart from tasks that require specialised training (for example, administration of medication, or manual handling).

We are looking for local organisations in Rochdale, Oldham & Tameside who will be willing to take on our students on a voluntary basis in order to allow them to gain the valuable experience needed for them to complete their course. And hopefully become a valuable asset to your own organisation. This can be in any health, social or community-based organisation. Are you one of these organisations desperate for support and volunteers? If you are interested or would like more information get in touch.
