Footasylum donate clothes to Rochdale Borough Community Warehouse

Posted: 3 February 2022

Action Together were delighted to receive a large donation of footwear and apparel from Rochdale-based clothing retailer Footasylum.

The donation was made to Rochdale’s Community Warehouse, which was set up by Action Together to combat food poverty and crisis in the borough during the Covid pandemic. The Warehouse is a central hub to redistribute much needed items including food, hygiene products, household items and clothing to voluntary sector groups and people living in the borough.

When Footasylum offered to donate large quantities of streetwear and sportswear to those in need in the borough, Action Together stepped up to ensure the stock goes to those who need it.

A number of items have already been distributed, including cold weather clothing. Julie Durrant, Action Together’s Community Warehouse lead, said, “one item has already gone to a young girl who lives in care who was overjoyed to receive a winter coat. She said she would never be able to afford a coat like it and was going to sleep in the new coat all week – she didn’t want to take it off. She was overwhelmed and overjoyed to have been one of the beneficiaries so far.”

“We hope this donation will help many more individuals and families like this in our borough who could not afford these items at this difficult time. We cannot thank Footasylum enough for this kind donation.”

Voluntary organisations, statutory bodies and Action Together in Rochdale are working together to help tackle consumable poverty for all. The support of local businesses is incredibly valuable in this mission.

Lucy Smith, Rochdale Development Lead with Business in the Community, explains, ’this donation is part of a wider project Business in the Community is running in Rochdale and it’s great we are having such an impact.’

‘We are delighted that this donation is going to the people most in need across the Rochdale Borough. A big thanks to Footasylum for taking our challenge seriously and being a responsible business, caring about the community’.

Garry Plumpton, Head of Logistics Operations at Footasylum, said, ‘we are absolutely delighted to help with this fantastic cause and are totally behind Action Together to get the goods out to those in need in the Rochdale Borough. We are glad we can be part of promoting the wellbeing of our community’.

Rochdale’s Community Warehouse is staffed by volunteers, and we are always looking for new people to join the team.
