• Drop-In Centre

    A Place of Welcome for Everyone. A designated Red Cross Drop-in Centre for Refugees and Asylum Seeker. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day and a basic hot meal will be provided at luch time. As part of the drop-in Red Cross will be providing grants to Refugees and Asylum seekers who meet eligibility requirments for their support. In addition we plan to provide: - ESOL classes - based on the spoken word - A hub providing space for other organisations such as the Health Service, Tameside MBC, Jigsaw, SERCO, Ashton Pioneer Homes, Action Together to offer their services. - A signposting service to other organisations in Tameside. All are welcome, but we are aware of a particular need for Refugees and Asylum seekers in this area of Tameside.

    St James (the Apostle) CofE church is a proacative church located in the northern part of Ashton-under-Lyne Town Centre. The inside of the church building has been split into worship area and community room use. We also have a fully fitted stainless steel catering kitchen in the North Transpet of the church.
    The community room is a well used resource. The Commiunity room has 'Tea/Coffee Bar facilities. The space is in high demand by many different community groups. It is used each Sunday following the service giving people chance to meet and socialise whilst enjoying a hot drink. The church uses the space for fundraising activities and social events. Other user groups are uniformed organisations, W.E.A. Art classes, training courses led by outside bodies, Alcoholics Anonymous also use the meeting room three evenings per week.
