Our Chat Line connects registered carers with friendly volunteers for regular conversations. Sometimes a carer may be facing a challenge and need support. Other times, they might just want a listening ear—or even a light-hearted chat about the latest Coronation Street episode!

- Tasks: Volunteers are matched with a carer who would like a weekly check-in, this will enable volunteer and carer to get to know each other. Each week, you’ll give them a call for a catch-up and a friendly conversation, which in turn can improve mood and increase self-esteem and confidence.
This role can be done entirely from the comfort of your own home, all phones number are kept private and there is no cost to the carer or volunteer. Our secure system keeps both your phone number and the carer’s number private. All calls are recorded, and an AI safeguarding tool monitors for any potential concerns—offering extra peace of mind for our volunteers. These recordings will only be reviewed if the system identifies any difficult and challenging conversation has taken place. All recordings will be automatically deleted after 30 days. If you choose to end your relationship with the N-Compass chat line, your personal details, including your name and contact information, will be permanently removed from the system. - Training: To become a Chat Line volunteer, we will first need to complete a DBS check (Disclosure & Barring Service) and your volunteer hub induction, we will arrange to meet you in a local setting near to you and there is no cost to volunteers for a DBS. This takes around 1.5 hours, and we will outline the volunteer journey and how everything works. You will need to compete 2 sessions of training on Zoom with on our team, they are –
• Safeguarding Training - During this session we will look at how we protect vulnerable people that we may be supporting. This takes around 1.5 hours
• Chat Line Training – During this session we will look at how the Chat Line process works and we will explore ideas on how to have great conversations. This takes around 1 hour
There is also an online training course to complete, which will take around 1 hours.
We also have some forms to complete, which will include providing 2 satisfactory references - Interests: Conservation, Customer Services, Men, Older people, Social care, Social Welfare, Women
