We are looking for volunteers with lived experience of neurodiversity—either personally or as a parent/carer of a neurodiverse child—to help support our friendly, informal drop-in sessions for families. These events create a safe space for parents and carers to connect, access support, and explore resources.

- Tasks: Offer peer support to other parents/carers attending the session
Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and understanding environment
Support with setting up/packing down session materials (sensory resources, books, refreshments)
Share personal experiences and signpost to relevant services where appropriate
Assist staff during events, including greeting visitors and providing light refreshments
Promote Home-Start’s Autism & ADHD Support Service - Training: Home-Start Coordinators provide regular support and supervision sessions for volunteers who deliver home visiting and group support. They are always at the end of the phone for advice and guidance if needed. Coordinators support volunteers to build on a wealth of practical experiences in supporting families in the community.
Following on from the volunteer Course of Preparation, the volunteers access additional training in Safeguarding, Autism Awareness, BME Awareness and PIMHS (Parent Infant Mental Health).Volunteering for Home-Start can be a stepping stone into a future career or training opportunity. - Requirements: Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location
- Skill And Qualifications Required: To volunteer for Home-Start you must have parenting experience or be a parent yourself. You will then undergo a Course of Preparation with your Coordinator and other interested volunteers. A DBS check and two references are also required.
