Hospital Visitor Volunteer - VoiceAbility

Could you help someone in a mental health facility access our advocacy services? Do you have the patience and understanding to chat with people in mental health facilities about their experiences there? You can make a real difference to their experience and recovery. This role is ideal for mental health and psychology and psychiatry students or anyone with an interest in mental health.

Tasks the volunteer will be required to do:

As a hospital volunteer, you might:
hold drop-ins
attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
share information
refer people to an advocate, by completing a form online or calling our helpline

You’ll need to be able work independently and safely in various situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Ability to act as a representative of VoiceAbility
Good communication, both in writing and verbally
Respectful of difference and diversity
Non-judgmental attitude
Organisational skills

Training:

We offer a range of e-learning training including Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Lone Working.
In addition we offer instructor led courses on Microsoft Teams specific to the role.

Requirements: Driving license, Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location
Skill and Qualifications Required:

Volunteering with VoiceAbility is ideal for people who have or want experience in human rights, health, care and wellbeing - but we care more about your values and empathy than your level of experience.

You’ll develop skills in communication and confidentiality, add experience and knowledge to your CV, and know you’re making a genuine difference to people’s lives.
As a volunteer you’ll receive full training, support from the volunteer team and your local advocates, and out of pocket expenses.
