GMAVSG provides advice on benefits and compensation for people with asbestos diseases, campaigns for better benefits and compensation, and organises two support groups for people who have lost a loved one to an asbestos disease and for people with mesothelioma. The Coordinator oversees this work and line manages two other workers.
The Coordinator’s duties include:
- Organising the phone helpline and visits to people suffering from asbestos-related illnesses, primarily around benefits and compensation. This includes referring to and liaising with appropriate external agencies, ensuring that databases of clients and case files are maintained.
- Maintaining the panel of solicitors
- Line managing the two other GMAVSG workers
- Organising the GMAVSG Board of Trustee meetings
- Promoting and organising GMAVSG support group meetings
- Campaigning on asbestos issues. This includes making presentations about the work of GMAVSG, organising and participating in events and demonstrations, media work, active involvement at relevant meetings and committees.
- Organisational management including administration, health and safety and financial responsibilities.
- Liaison with the GMHC Coordinators to cooperate on mutual aspects of the work on occupational health and safety.

- Working Hours Per Week: This post is full-time for 35 hours a week but we will consider part-time and job share applications. It may occasionally include some evening and/or weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given, not overtime payment.
