Every Tuesday morning, a women's group gathered at St. Thomas Church in Werneth for chair-based exercise sessions. One woman in her 70s was always the first to arrive, never missing a class.
As part of the team running these sessions, our goal as Women's Chai Project was to support older adults in improving their mobility, confidence, and social engagement through regular, accessible physical activity.
We offered structured, low-impact chair-based exercises tailored for older adults. Staff made sure to create a welcoming environment and encouraged consistent participation by checking in with attendees and adapting exercises to their individual needs.
The woman’s mobility improved so much that she began walking to the centre on her own. Her family shared that she looked forward to the sessions every week and that it had become a highlight of her routine. The improvement in her physical ability also boosted her confidence and independence, showing a clear and meaningful impact of the program on her well-being.
