Aims/priorities: Funding is intended to promote access to justice (particularly for people trying to get support for their basic needs), equality of opportunity or a sustainable environment.

The funders are particularly interested in hearing from applicants working with vulnerable groups, including prisoners, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and women in refuges.

Funding may only cover identifiable items or activities such as:

  • Publications
  • Staff/volunteer training
  • Publicity
  • Events and equipment which can benefit many people in the long-term.

Who can apply? UK organisations with charitable status may apply. In exceptional circumstances, applications may be considered from organisations that are established for "charitable purposes" and are recognised by HMRC as an exempt charity. Overseas charities may also be eligible for funding if they can demonstrate that their organisation complies with UK charity law.

Grant amount: Two levels of funding are available:

  • One-off grants of up to £5,000.
  • Grants of up to £3,000 a year for three years

Application process: Applications are considered at quarterly meetings each year. An online application form and full guidance notes can be found on the Matrix Law website.

Deadline: The next deadline is 11 April 2022 (5pm), for consideration at the 21 April 2022 meeting.
