Volunteers are the driving force behind Foodbanks and there are currently thousands of volunteers across the UK helping the Trussel Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis.
We want you to enjoy volunteering and to know that you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.
Key information
- Start Date: 31st July 2025
- End Date: 15th October 2025
- Volunteer: Weekly, Fortnightly
- Availability: Monday AM, Tuesday AM, Wednesday AM, Thursday AM, Friday AM
- Tasks: You will be a general foodbank volunteer and work with a team of volunteers, usually on a set day of the week and your tasks will include the following:-
Be in the packing room, pre-packing boxes with bags of food items that satisfy the client groups that come to us, i.e. single people, couples and families. This ensures we have a steady supply of bags ready to be taken out to the clients when they arrive in the Foodbank.
Be 'front of house', meeting and greeting the clients on arrival and having an informal chat with them over a cup of tea and a biscuit if they want. This allows for the client to disclose information as to why they are in need of emergency food (if they are happy to do so) and then you the volunteer can signpost the client to any partner organisations that might be able to offer help.
Be in the packing room processing the clients food voucher when they arrive, checking and verifying their details using an IT system specific to the Foodbank. - Training: Full training and support is provided for all of our roles and you will have a 'taster' session before formally joining us as a volunteer, just to make sure it is something you would like to do.
