Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a primary school local to them. They visit the school weekly for an hour or two and listen to children read individually to help develop their reading and comprehension skills and help the children to develop a love of reading. Reading for pleasure at a young age has a huge impact on how a child is able to access their secondary education and on their future life chances and so your time and support as a Schoolreaders volunteer could have a huge impact on a child's future.
Our volunteers really enjoy the experience of volunteering with Schoolreaders and feel they are making a difference to their community - "I enjoy my volunteering immensely. Getting to know the children - discussing the books and laughing at the stories has been a great pleasure and honour and I look forward to continuing.”
