About Us:
Soul Sisters is a domestic abuse charity dedicated to empowering survivors and their children to live independent lives, free from violence and fear. Guided by our core values of trust, respect, inclusion, compassion, and empowerment, we provide a safe and supportive space for those who need us.
Role Purpose:
As a Peer Support Volunteer, you will provide encouragement, understanding, and a listening ear to survivors of domestic abuse. By sharing experiences and fostering mutual support, you will help create a safe space where participants feel empowered and less isolated on their journey toward healing.
Key information
- Start Date: 6th January 2025
- End Date: 20th December 2028
- Volunteer: Weekly
- Availability: Monday AM, Monday Evening, Tuesday AM, Wednesday AM, Wednesday Evening, Thursday AM, Thursday Evening
- Tasks: Facilitating or co-facilitating peer support group sessions.
Creating a welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental environment for participants.
Offering emotional support and encouragement to individuals during group sessions.
Encouraging participants to share their experiences, building confidence and resilience.
Recognising and escalating any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate team member.
Providing feedback to the Soul Sisters team to help improve the peer support program. - Training: Free Training: Guidance on facilitating peer support and understanding domestic abuse dynamics.
Mentor Support: Ongoing support from the Soul Sisters team and experienced volunteers.
Reference: A reference provided after 6 months of volunteering with us.
Certificate: A certificate of appreciation upon completing an agreed number of volunteer hours.
Expenses Paid: Reimbursement for travel and a small subsistence to support your role.
