Volunteers' Week 2017 You make the difference

Volunteers' Week 2017 You make the difference
Published date:
Tuesday, 2nd May 2017

This year, NCVO’s theme for Volunteers’ Week 2017 is – “You Make The Difference”

Volunteers are making a difference to individuals and communities every day, through their efforts they can alleviate loneliness, provide much needed support to our most vulnerable and provide excellent services to the wider community. Across the borough of Oldham & Tameside there are over 51,700 volunteers, contributing to a whopping 153,000 hours per week! Without this large army of volunteers, the two boroughs would be much poorer places to live and work.

This is our chance, as Volunteer Managers, to tell our volunteers what difference they have made, continue to make and show our appreciation by thanking them for their efforts and the wider impact their actions are having.

We are asking you to invite your CEO, service users, partners, funders to take part in a short video telling your volunteers what difference they are making. Post your short video (1-2 minutes) on social media during Volunteers’ Week 1 – 7 June with #youmakethedifference. All you need is a smart phone, camera or tablet to capture your short message to then share it on your social media platforms. Please see below our Step by Step guide.

Together, we can put volunteering in the North East of Manchester on the map!

Every charity that takes part will be entered into a raffle with a chance of winning £100 prize draw.

#youmakethedifference Step by Step Guide

1. Use a smart phone, camera or tablet
2. Decide who is going to be in your short video? Is it the Director of your organisation or a service user? Who will make the biggest impact?
3. What are they going to say? Give them prompts to think about examples of how volunteers make a difference to their life or their organisation – what would your organisation look like without volunteers?
4. Where are you going to take the video e.g at a community venue? do you have any promotional material that you can put in the background?
5. Think about the light and any noise disturbance in the space you are using
6. Take the video in a horizontal frame
7. Keep it short – anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 mins
8. Post your video on social media e.g twitter and or facebook with #youmakethedifference
9. Please mention Action Together @weacttogether
10. If all else fails, take a photograph of someone holding up a quote is just as effective

We are able to come and take the video and post on twitter on your behalf if you prefer, please just get in touch sian.goodwin@actiontogether.org.uk 0161 339 2345
